Cary Diwali 2010 ‘Jashn - Celebrating 10 years of Hum Sub’

The inter-mingling of the various cultures in India have made the Indian calendar mark almost every single day as an occasion of celebration. These occasions recognize the various festivals, a change in nature, life events like birth of a child, wedding ceremonies or any other event that brings happiness. One such occasion is the 10th year anniversary of Hum Sub and Cary Diwali. Cary Diwali has been a very important part of Triangle’s cultural calendar since 2001. It celebrates the Diwali, the festival of lights, which is celebrated all over the world.

This year Hum Sub and Town of Cary will commemorate Hum Sub’s successful completion of 10 glorious years at Cary Diwali 2010 via its theme ‘Jashn -Celebrating 10 years of Hum Sub’. ‘Jashn’ means celebration, will showcase a celebration of an auspicious event or a festival nurturing a feeling of communal warmth, and its merrymaking as highlighted in India’s tradition. Diwali, as a festival of light and beauty encourages artistic expressions through home-decorations, stage-plays, singing and dancing, thereby discovering new talents of younger generation. Cary Diwali 2010 will portray the unique ways Indians enjoy life in everyday thick and thins through dance and music presentations by local artists.

Our exhibit will portray “Festivals of India” in their astonishingly diverse forms through vibrant and colorful narratives. These narratives will display the celebrations of the seasonal, religious, regional and national Indian festivals celebrated with rituals, songs, hymns, dances, fasts and feasts.

The highlight of the day, the grand finale will feature the internationally popular, multitalented, versatile playback singers and recent award winners, “The Pandit Sisters”. The Pandit Sisters, Shraddha and Shweta Pandit, belong to the Mewati Gharana of music in India. Winner of The Filmfare awards, ‘Best New Musical Sensation’ and performed live with Oscar winner A.R. Rahman, Shweta Pandit, will be accompanied by Indian Idol 3 finalist, heartthrob of many youngsters, singer and performer, Parleen Singh. Their performance culminates with spectacular fireworks.

The event known to bring families together in celebration will create a festive environment in togetherness. Multi-colored Rangoli designs; floral and diya (lamp) decorations and exhilarating fireworks will lend vivid, colorful imagery and grandeur to this festival.
