Celebrating 10 years of Hum Sub

Ten YearsTen years ago in 2001, the Triangle based cultural organization Hum Sub was founded by eight local families to foster and celebrate Indian cultural traditions. In that inaugural year Hum Sub organized the first Cary Diwali. The modest event was attended by about 2000 people.  Today, Hum Sub has blossomed into a vigorous and dynamic organization and Cary Diwali has become one of the largest events of its kind in the south-east attended by more than 12000 people in 2009.  Another annual event organized by Hum Sub, Basant Bahar a celebration of Spring, has also become a Triangle event of great repute.

Despite its young age, Hum Sub has developed into an effective and highly motivated organization with the mission of celebrating the social and cultural traditions on India.

In 2008, Hum Sub’s Cary Diwali was recognized by the State of North Carolina as an “iconic” event of the Town of Cary.

Diwali, as a festival of lights encourages artistic expressions which will be portrayed in this year’s Cary Diwali with vibrant performances by the local artists, unique exhibits on various aspects of India and colorful decorations. Every year attendees take in the buzz and feel the euphoria created by the colorful decorations, exhibition, bazaar and performances. They come back for more with family and friends to enjoy the Indian cuisine and culture and have made Cary Diwali one of the biggest minority events in the South East.

The highlight of the event is the evening performance by a popular performing group. The entire event is free and open to the public. Join us again this year with friends and family for more fun and celebration at the Koka Booth Amphitheatre on October 16th 2010.
